Most of the Programs at DBC are of long duration extending to about 5 academic years. Further, given the nature of the topics and the informal mode of learning, these academic years are spread over one or two calendar years, and sometimes students request extension for even longer duration. Once a student registers for any academic year of a course, the login is valid for 2 calendar years. At the outset we should warn you that these programs are the toughest in the world and unless you are really committed to learning vedic astrology as a scholar, we would advise you to try something else in the market.
Program Structure
There are presently three Programs at DBC, namely (1) Jaimini Scholar Program, (2) Parāśara Jyotiṣa and (3) Mantra Śāstra. Every Program is divided into various ‘Academic Years’ and fees are payable only for an academic year and not for a calendar year.
In 2025 we have started the Bṛhaspati Jyotiṣa Course (BJC) Series to cover BPHS Vol. II. BJC-1 taught the ten uḍu daśā with the flow of the Gaṅgā through the chakras. In BJC-II we aim to test the dictums of Maharṣi Parāśara in daśā usage.
Jaimini Scholar Program has five academic years titled Year-1, 2, 3A, 3B and 4 respectively. Parāśara Jyotiṣa has six academic years titled Year-1, 2A, 2B, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Mantra Śāstra is a very long Program and its academic years are smaller programs in themselves. The first year of Mantra Śāstra is called “Mantra Foundation”.
A student is expected to start at the first academic year and continue in sequence till the last year of the program. Most of these programs can be learnt online but the real thing is learning with the Jyotiṣa Guru in the Himalayas. That is one experience worth its value in gold. It accelerates the transformation and in a short period you are an expert jyotiṣa. Your understanding of the śloka and the sutra will not be the same. Unlike the online course which has a fixed fees for each academic year, the Himalaya Classes are completely free with the only obligation being the traditional ‘Guru Dakṣiṇa’ i.e. the vedic method of giving whatever donation to the Guru as per the students’ abilities and resources.
All programs require a Mentor (Jyotiṣa Guru) and at present DBC has about 24 Certified Jaimini Scholars for this purpose.
Joining a Program
A student can enrol for a batch of a Program as and when it is available/offered by a Jyotiṣa Guru/Scholar.
However, Mantra Foundation is available online and you can join it anytime.
Jaimini Scholar Programs are being offered by various scholars and you can contact a scholar of your region.
Parāśara Jyotiṣa is ONLY taught by Pt. Sanjay Rath as the first batch is yet to finish the program and get certified to teach. There are two batches (as of 2013) and the first certified Guru for this program is expected in the year 2017-18. The next batch of PJC shall start in the year 2015 and you can apply for this Program. Admission is done only after payment of course fees.
Heads of Programs
Every program has a Course Liaison who is also a certified Jaimini Scholar to deal with your questions and requests. They are the best guides for all matters of the Program and will guide you to your regional mentor and answer your queries.
